Hey guys!
I finished this book in the last week of March. I had it on my TBR for some months and I decided to read it as I needed to read something light. And while I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it either.
Yes No Maybe So takes us to a local state senate election where Jamie, an adorable Jewish boy finds Maya, a Pakistan- American Muslim girl.
Jamie is volunteering for the election and Maya just really wants a car. So without letting Jamie know, Maya volunteers too and they start to know doors to ask people for their votes.
Besides the political side of the story (that didn’t have my full attention because let’s be honest, not exactly my thing), I thought the book was well-written and easy to understand. It wasn’t exhaustive, even with all the political stuff. And it had that cliche love story everyone likes to read about.
I thought Maya the kind of girl that only studies to get straight As and that has (almost) everything. On the other hand, Jamie is adorable and has a family that really supports him even when he thinks it’s not the best for him. But as they say, mothers know best!
I could really see the growth in Jamie’s character and that was something I really liked to read. This book starts with one Jamie and ends with a whole new one.
Racism is a main theme here as the main characters both have different religions that not everyone accepts and the whole election shows us that.
As a good cliche story should be, the love between Jamie and Maya grows in no time and it’s really cute to see them in love. We don’t see much of them as a couple, but we accompany them falling in love and realising that maybe they are good with each other as something more than friends.
I really liked this book, however, I won’t reread it and I may even try to sell it, we’ll see.
See you next time.
