Review All The Bright Places By Jennifer Niven

Hi guys! How’s life going? 🤭 this post was on my drafts and this is a book that I loved when I read it so I thought better late than never right? Here we go then

This book talks about the lives of Theodore Finch and Violet Markey. Finch is a boy who finds death very attractive. Every day he thinks of different ways to die, but every day he also finds things to keep him alive, no matter how small.

Violet lives counting the days until graduation, so she can escape her small town and her grief for her sister’s death.

They meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school and become partners on a geography project. They start to get to know each other and fall in love.

Guys, my heart is broken. I need to confess that I only got this book because I wanted to watch the movie. And I have to admit what a beautiful book this is. It completely sucked me in and I loved Finch so much that I wished he was real. And Violet is such a sweet girl you just want to make her pain disappear.

I loved how close they became and their story is well grown. It is not like they meet, fall in love and done. No, you can see their friendship growing and they realising their feelings. It was funny to see how Violet befriended Finch’s best friends. I adored Charlie and Brenda, and loved how Brenda considered Violet her friend from the minute Violet and Finch started dating. It was great to read how Finch enjoyed their little wanderings for the project, including the “leave something behind” thing.

The chapters are narrated alternately by both and personally I love reading books written like that. You can clearly distinguish when is Violet narrating and when is Finch’s turn. As I said above, the story is well written and you can see the characters developing. Finch’s problems are written in a relatable way, and that makes you connect differently to him. Even been a sensitive topic, Finch’s mental illness is written beautifully even when it is complicated. Violet’s grief is scripted so well it seems real.

I don’t know why I haven’t read this book earlier.

I do my best thinking at night when everyone else is sleeping. No interruptions. No noise. I like the feeling of being awake when no one else is.

No more winter at all. Finch, you brought me spring.
