Hi there!
Recently I dared myself to read more books outside my comfort zone and the first thing I wanted to read was something written by Stephen King. A bookstagram friend told me the best book to start reading King is Joyland. So here we are, after reading Joyland and completely in love with my first horror book. Let’s dig into it?
Devin Jones accepts to work at an amusement park to try to forget the girl that broke his heart. However, all he finds is an unresolved murder and some dark truths that will change his life forever.
Joyland is the first mystery and horror book I ever read and I can say that I loved every piece of the book. It’s a very interesting story and all the mystery involving the park is such an attractive theme that I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the end. All I can say is that I did not see what was coming. There was such a plot twist that I still don’t know what to think.
Helped by a friend that worked with him at the park, Devin can solve the mystery around the murder that happen in one of the attractions of the park. He kind of falls in love with a woman that lives nearby, but that doesn’t work out. It was a shame, but I understood.
I thought the characters were well written and I loved that it was a girl who helped him find the murderer and doing all the research. It’s sad what happens to one of the main characters, but I guess they can’t all have a good life or a happy ending.
This book involves you since the beginning and I read the whole book in an afternoon. I’m a slow reader so you can guess how much I loved the book by the time I spent reading it. Stephen King writes beautifully and I loved his writing. I can’t wait for the next book that I get from him.
Have you read anything by the King of the Horror? Did you like it? Tell me what you think I should read next!
