5 books I gave 5 stars last year

Hi there!

Today I’m here to tell you about some books to which I gave 5 stars during the last year. I know, it’s not the type of post you publish at this time of the year (time flies!) but I think that is never a bad time to talk about good books. So let’s do this?

1. Fangirl

Fangirl talks about Cath who loves to read and write fanfiction and that moves into the university’s dorm. She has to move on from Simon Snow’s world and get into the real world. Her twin sister doesn’t want to stay in the same room as her so she has an arrogant girl as a roommate. Besides that, there’s a teacher that doesn’t like what she writes for the class and a friend with a special talent for words. Can she live without the help of Simon Snow’s fanfiction?

I love Cath. While I was reading I could only think how similar I and Cath were. I love reading, I lived in fanfiction’s world and still have anxiety attacks. I was so excited to finally read a book with a bookworm as a protagonist. I loved it so much I read the whole book in a sitting. Since then, I have read all Rainbow Rowell’s book except for Landline (I hadn’t the chance yet) and Wayward Son because I’m waiting for the Portuguese version. You see, I got all the books in Portuguese and if you’re Portuguese you know it’s going to take a while until we have the Wayward Son in our tongue. I love Rainbow Rowell’s writing so I can’t wait.

2. Naked In Death

Naked in death is the first in a book series written by the pseudonym for Nora Roberts. It happens in the year 2058 when technology completely rules the world. Detective Eve Dallas knows better and thinks the human is still ruled by the heart and feelings.

When the senator’s daughter is found dead, her secret life as a prostitute is revealed. Eve is involved in Washington’s politics and completely attracted to the principal suspect of her case, Roarke.

OK, so this is not a genre that I read often nor is anything by Nora Roberts, but this one tops everything. It has crime and mystery and romance in the right ways. I love this book and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

3. The Hating Game

Lucy is the good girl in the office and loved by everyone except for the cold and intimidating Joshua. They hate each other since day one. Stuck inside the office for most of the day, they get into a weird game of staring and the HR game. Lucy doesn’t want him to win at anything – especially now, that a huge promotion is on its way.

Lucy promised she would resign if Josh would win the promotion. Joshua wants to get the promotion to fire Lucy. But after a hot kiss in the elevator, Lucy and Joshua start to think if they really hate each other or if this hate is just their imagination.

Guys, I love this book. I have read this one four or five times last year. It’s how good it is. It’s such a funny book, I laugh all the time. Lucy is a sweetheart and Joshua… Man, I want a Joshua. He is professional and serious but can be really funny. I loved this book and I can’t wait for reading it again!

4. The Royal Runaway

Thea was left on the altar and exiled herself to cure the heartbreak. Now she is back to press conferences and events and she just wants to feel more normal and less like a princess. So one night she sneaks out of the house and meets Nick, her ex-fiancé’s brother and spy. Together, they will try to find what really happened to Christian that disastrous day when he jilted.

I loved The Royal Runaway! I thought it was going to be another book like the Princess’ Diaries and something cliche, but I was surprised to read a funny and kind of mysterious story. Thea is not the princess you’re used to seeing in the movies and books. She wants to know why Christian left her at the altar. It was good to read something light and funny.

5. Eleanor & Park

Eleanor is the new girl in town. She tries to get out of everyone’s attention, but her mismatched clothes and her rebel red hair catch everyone’s eyes. Until the day she sits next to Park, on the bus.

Park feels like he couldn’t do anything to be cool in Eleanor’s eyes. So slowly, they have late-night conversations and change mixtapes, what makes them fall in love with each other, a proper love for 16 years old kids.

I don’t remember why, but I remember I loved this book. I know I loved Park and kind of hated Eleanor. I adored how Rainbow Rowell developed their relationship. I remember thinking my relationship started very similar to theirs. I was living in a house in a terrible environment that affected my mental health and my boyfriend saved me. So I know very well what Eleanor was feeling throughout the book. And I got mad with something, but I don’t really remember the details.

And we end this post here. There were a lot more books, because I know what I like and only read what I know I’ll love. What about you? What books you gave 5 stars last year? Have you read any book I mentioned above? Tell me more in the comments!

See you next time!
