Hi there!
This last week I read the first book of the Harry Potter series and guys, I have to tell you, I’m so surprised. I watched the movies a long time ago and I hated it so I never wanted to read the books. However, for the last months, everybody’s been talking about it on bookstagram and they convinced me. I bought Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and well, I loved it. Let’s talk more about it.
Harry Potter lives with an aunt and uncle that couldn’t care less about him. They make him sleep in a tiny space under the stairs. One day, he receives his first letter telling him he’s a wizard. His relatives don’t want him to go and fulfil his destiny so he’s rescued by a special worker of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
There, he discovers how special he is. After all, he is the Chosen One, the Boy Who Lived. He learns to use magic and has adventures with his new friends.
If I knew how much I would love the book, I would have read it earlier. Harry Potter is a smart boy and tries to stay away from troubles when living with his terrible aunt and uncle. When he moves to Hogwarts, he discovers about his parents’ deaths and how he was the only survivor of the killing curse by Lord Voldemort. He also has true friends for the first time and feels like he finally belongs somewhere.
Even though is a book about magic and wizards, in my opinion, there is not much magic and spells. You know some of the spells and about the classes they have, but I think I expected to read more details about their magic and spells.
I thought the writing was good. It is easy to understand and you can read it in only a couple of days. This is one of the reasons why I gave four stars instead of five. As it was written for children, I found myself looking for more action or something more dangerous to happen. Yes, I knew what kind of story this was, but people convinced me to read it. And I liked it more than I’d like to admit!
Anyway, I liked it and I’m glad I read it. Have you read it? Which Hogwarts House you’re in? I’m a Hufflepuff, with pride.
See you next time!
