Hi there!

Since we’re in quarantine, we find ourselves with a lot of free time on our hands. I’ve been reading, more than usual, and I hope you too. I just finished the Rules of Seduction by Madeline Hunter. Madeline has been one of my favourite authors in the historical romance genre forever and I can’t think of a book written by her that I don’t like. It’s impossible for me not liking a book of hers. This book is the first in the Rothwell Brothers Series and it was released in November 2006.

This is the story of Alexia, a young woman with no dowry and no hopes to ever get married, and Hayden, the man who brought misery to Alexia’s family and stole Alexia’s innocence in an impulsive act. Now she is forced to marry the man she hates but who teaches her the power of seduction. Hayden bears a dark debt of honour and he’s willing to risk everything except his new wife who is trying to figure out how to play with her own rules…

While I loved the emotional growth of the two principal characters, I felt the ending was really bad. It felt like Madeline Hunter could have made the book a little bigger and finished the story less abruptly. I felt like it left some questions that could be answered with a couple more chapters.

I love a good Madeline Hunter book, but this one didn’t satisfy me completely. I wanted more of Hayden and Alexia’s relationship. I thought it was a bit sad her realising her feelings only at the end, literally at the end. She only admitted to love him like at the last three pages of the entire book!

The sex scenes didn’t disappoint me; Hunter knows how to write those really well. Her sex scenes are always my favourite parts because the author never forgets she’s writing a historical romance.

4 out of 5 stars only because of its end.

Tell me, have you read it? Do you agree with me? Tell me your opinion!

See you next time!
