10 Books Turned Into Movies In 2020

Hi there!

I love movies so I thought “why not write a post about books that are going to be movies?”. Man, I tell you right here, it’s going to be a good year! In the cinema area because the rest isn’t going so well…

Let’s do this!

1. Little fires everywhere by Celeste Ng

It talks about Elena Richardson, who rents the upstairs part of her rental home to Mia Warren and her daughter, Pearl. Moody, Elena’s younger son, meets Pearl and grows a crush on her. They become friends and he introduces Pearl to his siblings: Lexie, Trip and Izzy. Their friendship brings the two mothers together. But Mia hides her past and neglects the rules that threatens to ruin this ordered community.

When the Richardson’s friends try to adopt a Chinese-American baby the town divides and Mia and Elena are on opposing sides. Suspecting of Mia’s motives, Elena wants to  uncover Mia’s secrets. But her obsession brings devastation to her family and Mia’s.

I had to talk about this one. It’s not going to turn into a movie, but a miniseries. It is to be produced by Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington as the author for Hulu. They are going to star in it too. The release date is March 18.

2. The last letter from your lover by Jojo Moyes

In 1960, Jennifer Stirling wakes up in a hospital and can’t remember the last years. When she returns home feels like a stranger in her own life until she discovers a letter asking her to leave the husband, signed only “B”.

40 years later, Ellie, a journalist, finds the same letter in the newspaper archives. She becomes obsessed with the letter hoping to resurrect her career. She thinks that maybe if she discovers the letter to be a story with a happy ending, maybe her love life is going to be good too. Ellie’s story will change that couple’s history and teach her about modern love.

This is one of my favourite books and I’m so excited for the movie! Felicity Jones and Shailene Woodley are the producers and the staring cast, along with Joe Alwyn, Callum Turner and Ncuti Gatwa. They still need to announce the release date.

3. The woman in the window by A.J. Finn

Anna Fox is a recluse in her own house. She spends her day drinking wine, remembering old times and spying her neighbours. When the Russells move into the house across her way, they seem like the perfect family. But then, Anna sees something that she’s not supposed to, and her life collapses.

I don’t usually read thrillers and I didn’t read this one yet, but it seems really interesting. The movie is going to be produced by Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas. It will have a golden cast staring Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie and much more. It is scheduled to be released on May 15.

4. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton

Gigi, Bette and June are top students at the exclusive Manhattan ballet school and as a new student Gigi just wants to dance. Bette is tired of being in the shadow of her ballet star sister what brings her a serious lead. And June’s mother will make her stop dancing if she doesn’t land on a principal role this year.

What will happen when the girls are both friends and each other’s enemy?

It’s another tv series, but I’m really excited for this one. I danced ballet for years when I was younger, so a tv show based on a book full of ballet and a familiar ambience is all I need. Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, Jordanna Fraiberg, and Deborah Henderson are the executive producers, but we don’t know when it is supposed to be released.

5. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Theodore Finch loves death and is always thinking of ways to put an end on his life. But every time he is about to do it, something good happens, and even if it’s a small one he stops.

Violet Markey lives for the future and she can’t wait for graduation, so she can escape her town and her sister’s recent death’s grief.

When they meet neither knows who save whom. As they develop a friendship, they realise they can be themselves with the other. But can both grow without prejudice the other?

Golden cast: Elle Fanning, Justice Smith, Alexandra Shipp and Luke Wilson. With a cast like that, what can we ask more? With Elle Fanning, Paula Mazur, Mitchel Kaplan as well as Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding as producers, this movie is to be released on February 28.

6. Rebecca by Daphne du Murrier

Being a maid, she can’t believe when Maxim de Winter asks her to be his wife. But she realises she may have made a mistake when they arrive at his immense estate. His late wife is still around the house and she threatens their marriage even from the grave.

Typically seen as another Cinderella story, this is one of my favourite books ever. Alfred Hitchcock directed the first movie version in the 40’s. This new version is going to be produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Nira Park and  Lily James and Armie Hammer are to star the cast. The release date is yet to be announced.

7. Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Linnet Ridgeway had everything: she was young and beautiful until someone murders her. Hercule Poirot has a clue on who did it, but everything is not as it seems.

Produced by Kenneth Branagh, Judy Hofflund, Simon Kinberg, Ridley Scott, Mark Gordon and Kevin J. Walsh, it has a great cast with Kenneth Kranagh, Tom Bateman and Annette Bening and it is scheduled to release in October.

8. The Stand by Stephen King

This is the end of the world. An accidental release of a modified disease kills 99% of the population, creating an apocalypse.

This is another remake, but of the miniseries. Stephen King, Josh Boone, Ben Cavell are the executive producers  along with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller, Richard P. Rubinstein and Owen King. James Marsden, Amber Heard, Greg Kinnear, Whoopi Goldberg, Katherine McNamara, Alexander Skarsgard and Nat Wolf are going to star this remake. The release date is still unknown.

9. P.S. I still love you by Jenny Han

Lara Jean and Peter were pretending, but they are a real couple now. But a boy from her past is back to her life as are her feelings for him. So now, Lara Jean needs to figure out if it is possible to love two boys at the same time.

Ok, so who doesn’t love a good love story? I loved this trilogy and I was really happy knowing they were going to make another movie. So this one is going to have the same cast (Lara Condor, Noah Centineo, Ross Butler and Anna Cathcart) but they’re adding Jordan Fisher (I had a huge crush on him some years ago ha-ha). It’s produced by Matthew Kaplan and Dougie Cash, and it’s going to be released on February 12.

10. Emma by Jane Austen

Emma is enchanting and loves to play matchmaker. But her little games can be devastating.

This is such a good classic and there are already a lot of adaptations. But one more can’t hurt us. Produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin, it has Bill Nighy, Johnny Flynn and Anya Taylor- Joy as the lead roles. It will be released in the U.K. on February 14 and in the U.S. on February 21.

And that’s it. There are a lot more movies and tv series coming out based on books, but I think these are my favourites. And they’re good! I’m pretty excited for some, and I hope they’re as good as the books. What do you think? What book would you love to see on a cinema screen? Tell me about it!

See you next time!
