2020 Must Read

Hi there!

Today I present to you my 2020 TBR! I know it’s late; I mean February is almost here, but better late than never, right?

2020 tbr

This list contains books I really want to read this year. Some I will reread and others are books I bought last year and hadn’t the chance to read.

So let’s dig into it?

Heartless

Heartless, Marissa Meyer

Being a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, we can see Cath’s journey. She is one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the King but her interests don’t lie there. She wants to open her store and sell her own pastries, which her mother believes unthinkable for a woman that could become queen.

She meets Jest at the royal ball where she is expected to receive the King’s proposal. She and Jest start a secret courtship risking to offend the king and anger her parents.

Cath wants to choose her own destiny, but fate has other plans.

I got this baby after I heard everyone talk about it. It was everywhere: booktube, bookstagram, Facebook! It got into my brain and, for a few weeks, it was all I thought about. I love retelling and already know the author’s work and I can’t wait for reading this one.

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë

Jane is an orphan and felt like an outcast all her life. She has been hired to care for Adele, Mr. Rochester’s ward. Jane falls in love with her boss, but he keeps a dark secret. Will Jane be heartbroken?

I read this book for the first time when I was fourteen and I fell in love. I don’t remember a bit though, so I want to read it this year. I think it’s a good classic so why not reread it?

Under rose- tainted skies, Louise Gornall

Under Rose-Tainted Skies

Norah knows that her fears of a tsunami or odd numbers are irrational, but her mind is stronger than her so she doesn’t leave her house’s walls and lives through people’s social media.

When Luke arrives on her doorstep, he sees a funny, brave girl and Norah likes his version of her. They become friends but Norah knows he deserves someone who isn’t afraid of silly things. Can she let him go so he can be happy or will she try and turn herself into his beautiful version of her?

I must admit I didn’t know much about this book when I got it, but after I looked it up I knew I made a good job buying it. I hope it is as good as I think.

Jane Steele

Jane Steele, Lyndsay Faye

Jane is a London fugitive. When an advertisement catches her attention she has nothing to lose and takes the position. She falls in love with the mysterious Charles Thornfield and faces a problem: what if he finds out of her murderous past?

Yes, it is a retelling. I notice a pattern here, don’t you? Being a fan of Jane Eyre (even if I don’t remember a thing!), I couldn’t let this opportunity pass me by.

Red, white and royal blue, Casey McQuiston

Red, White and Royal Blue

Alex and Henry hate each other. One is the son of the president of the United States and the other is the British prince. When the media gets a photo of an altercation between the two, the relation of the two countries is going to a bad place. The counsellors suggest a truce between the boys. Faking their friendship for both countries’ sake, they begin a secret romance that can shake the campaign. Can they show their true colours to the world?

This is going to be my second lgbt book and I’m really excited to finally read it. I’ve been reading about it for months now and I have high hopes for this one. I really hope it is as good as people have been saying.

The Infernal Devices, Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Angel

Clockwork Prince
Clockwork Princess

Everybody has read or knows about The Mortal Instruments, either is the tv show, the movie or the books’ version. I’ve been loving this world since I remember, but I need to read the other series of this demoniac universe. This is the prequel of TMI and talks about Tessa’s journey in the London Institute.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

Where’d you go Bernadette, Maria Semple

Bernadette disappears before a family trip to Antarctica. Her daughter gathers her mother’s correspondence to find out what happened to her mother. Narrated by Bee, Bernadette’s daughter, this is a funny novel about familiar love.

I wanted to watch the movie, but when I discovered about the book, I promised I wouldn’t watch the movie before reading the book. So this is the year I do both, hopefully.

P.S. I love you, Cecelia Ahern

P.S. I Love You

Holly couldn’t imagine her life without her husband Gerry, they were the perfect couple. When Gerry dies of a terminal disease, Holly finds herself lost. With the help of letters her husband left her, she finds the joy and laughter again.

I watched this movie and I loved it, but I never had much interest in the book, until a friend convinced me I should read it (she is crazy about this one). She is a reader too, and we both enjoy the same novels, so why not read this for her sake?

And that’s it! These are the books I must read this year. I will definitely read others (I’m finishing reading the Lunar Chronicles) but I really want to read this list. It’s the first time I’m doing something like this and I hope everything goes fine. I will be giving updates and you will see my reviews here.

 See you next time!
